There are many reasons that you should be having regular sex. For a start, it helps to keep your body healthy. People who have more sex are better able to fight against things like the common cold. It also makes you feel good, and who doesn’t want that?
Science has proven that regular sex is extremely beneficial for your health. One area that it isn’t always clear about is your blood pressure. Now, a study from Georgia State University has proven that regular good sex can actually help to lower your blood pressure. It looks like it is time to jump beneath the sheets!
We live in a stressful world
Most of us have to deal with stress in some form or another. January is a particularly tough time for it. It’s the start of the year and we feel a lot of pressure to get 2019 off to a good start. Add the fact that it seems like the longest month of the year and that it is cold and miserable, and you get a tough time!
In Ireland, stress is very much a problem, especially in the workplace. One study in 2016, reported by the Irish Times, discovered that “stress levels had continued to grow, to 22 per cent”. This figure is shocking, especially when you look at the fact that one-fifth of the workforce stated that they were either “always” experiencing stress or dealing with it “most of the time”. It’s not a great outlook!
When we’re stressed, we’re more likely to do certain things. We might skip the gym in favour of a delicious takeaway because we’ve earned it after a tough day. Smoking and drinking are some other ways we may try to calm ourselves down, and this can lead to high blood pressure.
What can regular good sex do?
If you have high blood pressure, then you’ll be eager to find ways to reduce it. Medication is one method, but it comes with complications. I have a blood pressure monitor at home, mainly as a result of a history of it in the family. Thankfully, it seems that having regular good sex might just be the answer.
A study by Georgia State University, published in the journal of Sexual Medicine, discovered that sex could be great for your blood pressure. In fact, those having regular good sex had lower blood pressure readings. The key part there is “good sex”. Any old sex wasn’t enough. Neither was masturbation. It had to be sex that was satisfying. Researchers stated that “the more pleasurable the orgasm, the lower the readings on the day after intercourse”.
Volunteers were asked to rate their orgasms, with the average being 87. They found that those with satisfactory orgasms had a fall in average systolic blood pressure by about 17mmHg. This is a similar improvement to that which would be expected from taking a water pill diuretic. Researchers believe that this is because of oxytocin, which is a feel good hormone that makes us feel closer to our partner.
Getting regular good sex
The problem here is that the emphasis is on regular good sex. It’s not enough to just have the occasional sex. It has to be good sex enjoyed regularly in order to benefit your health. This sucks for those of us with busy lives, as it is difficult to feel in the mood for sex… especially after having a difficult day at work.
You could consider creating your own sex schedule. I’ve written about them before, and my experience was positive. It’s a great way to dedicate time to sex and ensure you and your partner get the time together that you deserve.
Of course, this won’t guarantee that the sex you have is good. It just means that you’ll get to have regular sex. I’ll leave the good sex and amazing orgasms part down to you.
Can sex really help your blood pressure?
For me, having good sex can help me to relieve some stress. When I’m feeling particularly tense, I’ll arrange to meet with a fuck buddy and we’ll have some fun. It’s a great distraction and really makes me feel better.
