There are so many different types of porn out there, but the one we tend to associate it with is videos. Porn sites filled with videos are everywhere. No matter what genre you are into, you’ll be able to find it with ease. Yes, there are other types out there, but are any as popular as porn videos?
I doubt it. It is the first thing that comes to mind when we think of porn. The problem is that this porn isn’t great for everyone. Those with visual difficulties or those hard of hearing find it difficult to enjoy porn like this. Thankfully, accessible porn is starting to hit the mainstream of the porn world.
Visual and auditory impairments
We take a lot of things for granted. I know that I can easily pick up a book from the shelf and read it without any difficulties. When I’m watching TV, I don’t need subtitles or closed captions in order to understand what is going on. I can simply see and hear it clearly, and that isn’t something some people experience.
Closed captions have been designed to aid those with hearing difficulties. They not only show what is being said, but also what is being heard. Gasps, moans, heavy breathing. You name it, it appears in the closed captions. It really helps to immerse the viewer in what they are watching, as it is made abundantly clear what is going on. You don’t miss a thing simply because you have an auditory impairment.
Many sites are offering adjustments for the visually impaired too. This might be adjusting colours to make them better for anyone with colour blindness. They might enlarge the text to make it easier to see, or offer unique keyboard shortcuts to make it easier to move around the site. All of these things help to make sites more accessible.
User-friendly content
Many sites and content creators have been working to make their content more accessible to all. Instagrammers have been putting detailed captions on their photos to describe them, ensuring the visually impaired can still enjoy what they post. Other sites have been taking steps to give those with hearing difficulties more access to their content in a similar way.
Now it is the turn of porn.
Pornhub is the largest porn site on the Internet, and one of the largest video sharing sites for porn. It is part of a huge network of sites eager to provide sexy content to entertain and turn us on. The problem is that many of the videos aren’t exactly user friendly, especially for those with visual or hearing impairments.
Which is why the site is now offering accessible porn. They want to make sure that every adult can enjoy the content on their site, and so they have been taking steps to achieve it. Now they have a variety of options available to those using the site.
What is accessible porn?
Accessible porn is basically porn with some adjustments made in order to make it easier for everyone to enjoy. This might be tailored specifically for those with difficulty hearing or maybe for those who have visual impairments and need a little something extra to help them see what is going on in each scene.
Pornhub have been working to make accessible porn for a while now. It started with Pornhub VI, where they optimised the platform to allow anyone with visual impairments to enjoy it. These included customised colour contrasts, enlarged text, and keyboard shortcuts.
More recently they have also added a whole new category to the site – closed captioning. As they tell us on the site, “each video will display descriptive and interpretive text aimed to help improve the experience for users who are not able to hear the video’s original audio”. This means that everyone can enjoy porn!
Too good to be true?
Taking a look at the site, I can already see a few problems. Unless you know that this content is there, you aren’t going to spot it on the main page. You’d have to go into the categories and look for the closed captioning category in order to access it. With VI mode, you actually have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the site and click the ‘visually impaired’ option in the ‘discover’ section. Not as user-friendly as it could be for those with difficulties accessing the content!
