Survey Says Men Have it Wrong Over How Much Women Have Sex

An incredible recent survey has revealed that men think women are having more sex than they actually are.

Man on top of woman in bed

Men in the UK think women aged between 18 and 29 have sex 22 times a month on average. In fact, it appears that they are in fact doing it nearer five times a month.

‘Perils of Perceptions’

The research, carried out by Ipsos as part of its ‘Perils of Perceptions’ study is designed to explore the gap between people’s perceptions and the reality of sexual experiences since 2012.

What is fascinating is the fact that men’s perceptions about women change as they are get older, but are only less wrong, and are very rarely right. Men under the age of 35 think women are having sex 33 times a month, compared to 14 times a month in the eyes of older men.

Women themselves were closer to the actual number of five, but still couldn’t get it right. They believed women between 18-29 are having sex 12 times a month.

Professor of public policy, director of the Policy Institute at King’s College London, and lead study author Bobby Duffy believes this lack of ability to grasp the reality of the female sex life is down to two main reasons.

“Both are related to what we’re told by the media and broader cultural cues, as well as how we think, and the biases and tricks our brains play on us,” she wrote for The Independent.

“Men’s massive errors are, therefore, likely to be due to a twisted mental image drawn from the representation of women in the media, entertainment, advertising and myriad other cultural cues, combined with men’s own fragile egos, thinking that women are having more sex than them.”

We can all see the problem with false perceptions. It will likely make men unhappy with their partner as they are ‘not getting as much sex as they should be’. Women may also be unhappy as they feel that their sex lives do not match up to their friends, or other women in society.

The more we know about the reality of bedroom activities, the more we realise that our lives are actually pretty good for the most part.

A False Reality

The media, and more recently social media, certainly gives people a false impression of other people’s lives. Every relationship is perfect, people all have loads of cash, an incredible social life, and they are all having loads of sex. When we compare that to our reality where those things are likely not the case, it is no wonder depression and anxiety is going up, by all accounts.

This should always be remembered. Most of us love sex, and just because the majority of women aren’t screwing like Nikki Benz on a nightly basis doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with them.

Five times a month is normal, so stop whinging. I am speaking to you as well girls!
