A man caught masturbating in a gym shower at Energie Gym in Applewood Village in Swords, Ireland, has been placed on an 18-month Probation Bond with a condition that he does not repeat his behaviour.
Declan Thorpe, 47, was caught by a staff member who saw him in the shower area.
A Staff Complaint
Sergeant PJ Maguire told Swords District Court the staff member made a complaint to gardai, and after that the defendant made a statement on the issue where he admitted his wrongdoing.
The defendant, of Dunsink Drive, Finglas pleaded guilty to recklessly engaging in an act of masturbation under Section 45 of the Criminal Law Act 2017 on May 14.
He apparently had no previous convictions and this seems to have been come out of the blue.
Defence solicitor Fiona D’Arcy said the defendant is “mortified” and has been in despair since approached by the gardai and had no idea why he committed the act.
“He apologises to the people he offended. He is not proud and is mortified for the type of offence he committed,” said Ms D’Arcy. She also added that he had been made redundant seven years ago and had subsequently been unable to find a job.
Judge Gerard Jones said garda would be able to re-enter the case if the defendant repeated his antics and ordered he abides by all conditions of the Probation Service.
So no more jerking off in gym showers for him.
Depressed or Daft?
Seriously though, what was he thinking? There is a time and a place to masturbate and in your local gym isn’t one. I train at a boxing gym and can only imagine what the reaction would be if I started ‘pulling’ that kind of performance. (OK, that is the end of the awful puns) One suspects it may be a depression issue as he has no previous with this kind of behaviour. Then again, he may just have thought he was on his own and was mortified to be caught. One is upsetting, the other just daft.
