RIP to the person/s whose electric car exploded on the northbound M1 just before M50 early this morning. Sad news. More reason to despise those stupid cars on top of the millions of dead Congolese and thousand of child slaves being forced to mine to manufacture all our electronics’ batteries.

A quick google shows 34,000 electric cars registered in Ireland as at January 2023 so if this is the sole catastrophic failure you would be far less likely to die in your electric car than your fossil burner where engine related mechanical failures are more common (between 1 in a hundred and 1 in 400).

As you point out Congo supplies much of the materials for batteries of all kinds and much more materials than that in terms of the innards of mobiles so if you take that as an objection to electric cars you should also take a long look at your mobile (amongst other devices).

Hence why I said batteries. Selective reading/lack of comprehension? Car batteries are way bigger than phone ones meaning even worse conditions than ever for the enslaved.

And wouldn't surprise me. Seeing as the news don't mention his car exploding to begin with. So it'll be reported as victim error as opposed to electric cars aren't as safe as they're trying to imply they are and seeing as they're scaping petrol/diesel cars in a few years...

How many "fossil burners" simply explode randomly, killing the driver?! I bet that ratio is a LOT higher. I'll take a 400:1 chance of engine related mechanical failure any day over a 34,000:1 chance of being blown up and killed!

Electric cars are a con. So many people are completely oblivious to the slavery conditions of those involved in mining the cobalt/lithium required for the batteries, as you said Amy. All the marketing that's done for these things worldwide by the governments, and not once have I heard them address the slavery issues. Even looking at things environmentally, they really aren't that green once you include the whole mining procedures - the global logistics of moving all the cobalt/lithium from the source, etc. It's madness. Yet they're billed as being the saviour of the planet for cars? Where's all the energy going to come from to run them all if enough of the population adopts them? Wind and solar won't cut it! Back to fossil fuel plants? Isn't the whole thing about reducing the need for fossil fuels?? That only leaves nuclear as an option, which I don't think will happen, not in Ireland anyway.

Hydrogen seems much more promising I think. They're testing it on aircraft and trucks, why the heck not go full scale with cars?? Yet you don't hear as much about it as electric cars. I wonder why?? I think that Shell in California recently shutdown it's Hydrogen stations, though i could not find an answer as to why. Much like every other issue in the world, there are those meddling in it all from the shadows.....

They're gonna have to move down the child slave labour from 3 to 2 in Congo as they'll need more forced labour. A few thousand deaths per week are a casualty they're willing to take as long as demand is met.

Compating a small phone battery to a massive car one is just.... But I guess its easy to ignore when the babies dying look nothing g like you and yours.

People should be demanding to know why hydrogen is not being pursued aggressively when it is the stand-out "green" technology. But, as the man said, follow the money...

They are a disaster and biggest con ever, i left mine back, there was a case, dont think the same where the car was hit in front and went on fire but the impact caused the car doors to look automatically and the poor person inside could not get out, they are a firebomb

engineers cant even start work on them til the electric charge is gone out and that takes time
my mate bought a tesla at 136k sterling new and changes every 2 years, he been in garage good few times with it for stupid things, he got it 22 months and changing again but dealer only giving him 35k on a trade in and does not even want it, theyre a rip off
