I've sold a few cars privately and that kind of behaviour is common enough in my experience.
No idea what motivates them but they're extremely irritating little shits.

What's missing from the OP is whether or not she informed the client that the time slot she's offering is her earliest available time. I assume it is but it's not clearly stated in the OP. If yes, then they're idiots. If not, why are you expecting them to be clairvoyant?

I used to think that perhaps it would be helpful to give a time range e.g. "I'd like a 60 minute appointment anytime between 2pm and 6pm" but that quickly seems to cause confusion even though you might think it would be more helpful for them to organise their day, space out appointments etc.

Yeah, exact time is better. I don't mind 'between 2 and 6pm' (it's actually preferable. What I hate is 'Do you have availability today?' Or 'around 4' eh, 4pm? 4.30? 1 minute to 5? When?

Maybe they think they're showing how serious they are. I find it disrespectful, both to me and the person/s I have booked. Because if I book in with someone and they cancel or reschedule my appointment to accommodate someone else, I'll never book with them again. Petty me would hope the person they booked In doesn't show up lol.
