Default Being overweight = unhappy ?

If people had a magic wand and could pick whatever body shape that their own body is actually reasonably capable of producing, would you choose your current body shape ?

If not , why haven't you changed it for the better ? Are you unhappy or is your morale just not high enough to motivate you ?

My guess is that were the prize to be sufficiently attractive , 90% of people would find it relatively easy to achieve a much better body shape and health.

Depression stemming from years of familial abuse [including getting the shit kicked out of me for leaving anything on the plate because "I fucken worked for that food"] that shoots your self esteem to hell. If you are at the point where you genuinely believe that you're a worthless piece of shit, what the point of caring if you truly believe that nobody could ever give a fuck about you? Stuffing your bake till you cant move is a comforting feeling, until it spirals out of control, leading to needing more comfort and feeling more shit because you just keep getting bigger.

Obviously my case is my own, but it can be a difficult dive to pull out of. Generally in society if you hear of someone anorexic you don't just tell them 'go eat, its easy' but when someone is a chronic overeater, society tends to scoff and assume they're just some selfish prick with no self control. Have you any idea what it's like to go into a gym to have some lean muscle cunt laugh and ask "what the fuck are you doing here?" Soul destroying, that's what that is. Makes you just want to head back home via Maccy D's for that sweet sweet comfort.

My own journey over the last 18 months hasn't been easy. I'm about 1/3 of the weight down that I need/want to be, and having to go out any buy a ton of new clothes because most of my old shirts are tents is a pretty nice feeling. Shows there's light at the end of the tunnel. The fact I can now go on a 6+ mile hike and not come back with the feet cut off me, ankles fucked and knees swollen is fantastic. But to get to this point, over the hump so to speak to be able to see how it could be, was the hardest part.

Well done you, it's not easy to lose weight, so much temptation on a daily basis plus sometimes your 'friends' are secret assassins. Keep up the good work.

I put weight on very easily, I can look at a cream cake & put half a stone on.I admit that I could do with losing a stone but I'm not going to give myself a hard time over it nor am I going to make myself miserable, fixating on losing weight. For me, it's everything in moderation but for some people, it's hard to get in the right frame of mind to start losing weight.

Also, remember, some people don't have a problem with being overweight, they are happy, it's other members of the general public that have a problem with them being overweight, if they think like that, then that's their problem & they shouldn't project it onto others that they see as overweight.

Society is way too judgmental, we should learn to accept the person & not to form opinions based on their image/size.

In memory of an awesome woman Laura Lee RIP
It's so difficult to articulate just how much she meant. Inspirational, brave and irreplaceable - our hero.
Please do what you can for her daughter. Deeply appreciated.

this sentence just remind me of this:
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/women/lif...-woman-should/

I remember I was so angry when I saw it, cause this elderly woman who was body shamed might be simply going to the gym to stay healthy.

It made me feel as if we become obsolete after crossing a certain age or weight line.
are we then no longer a valid member of society?
We might not all get overweight, but we will all age.
Where is the respect? It could be someone else's mother, grandmother, wife, struggling to get in shape after a surgery etc...
sorry, don't mean to rage but it still makes me pretty angry.

Yep. And it boggles the mind that to the 'few' old/fat/unattractive people don't belong in gyms. How do you get to slim/toned/in shape if not at a fucking gym. When I canceled my membership I told them why, that I didn't feel welcome by some of the established regulars. They told me they're very anti-that and ban anyone involved, but who wants to be that guy telling teacher? Not me.

I work with one of those meatheads you allude to. To hear him talk to his buddies about 'this guy that showed up at the gym last night' is revelatory. And I have to breathe the same air as him all day.

Making fun of a fat person at the gym is like making fun of an unemployed person at a jobs fair.
I'm average but enjoy keeping fit. In my experience most people at the gym don't take too much notice of the people around them, they're too focused on themselves, unless you're using a machine or a set of weights they want to use next. Sometimes it might be down to older or overweight people feeling self conscious or hyper sensitive. That's just my experience.

You probably aren't aware of this but you demonstrate grace and honesty in the way you talk about this subject. You should really consider blogging your journey. I'm sure it would inspire others.
