in order to keep prices low someone got to suffer
Yep. Same in retail. Some wain leaving school now with just their basic maths/English certs has no chance of walking into a 40 hour a week job, minimum wage or otherwise.

People complain about the self checkout in supermarkets, but will fumble around and complain rather than wait at the only open checkout. There's a load of jobs gone, probably never to be replaced since one person can manage 6 tills while you do all the work yourself.

I feel bad for young school leavers like howard, they've no chance. Hell there was a pub restaurant round here were looking a pot washer "only apply if you have 2 years+ experience." For a minimum wage zero hour pot washing job.

But, people like their cheap Chinese shit at the shops, and super cheap flights, so who cares who it fucks over so log as I'm alright Jack.

A friend of mine lost his job.
At 46 he now works at the check in desks at Dublin airport for €11.50 per hour and says there are others paid less.

It must be hard living on that.

I am on the minimum wage, I don't expect much more for the holiday period really, I might get a wee bonus if I can keep the customers sweet but i'm not holding my breath

Mate of mine in East Anglia lost his programming job. He's early 30's and has worked every day since leaving uni. Lost his job 2 months ago when the firm outsourced everything so he's signed on the brew while applying for everything going. Now to keep his brew he has to go for 8 weeks "job placement" working in some online book sales place 8-4 Monday - Saturday.

No comp sci jobs in the area, and blue collar firms not interested in someone they know will leave as soon as he gets something in his field again.

But to be expected to work in a private firm, 48 hours a week, for no pay.... it's a bit of a joke. He wouldn't mind if it was litter picking or some community shit on the council. but not doing work in a private company.

If they don't charge for the training they will most likely have too many people leaving after the first month not happy with the job. Ryanair operate on about 3% profit margin so It's just the nature of the business.

Anywhere not shit that needs specific training like that sign it into your contract that you pay it back if you leave within X number of years, and they can scoop it from your last wage. Kind of standard in many other industries.

And as for that Ryan Air uniform

I use RyanAir at times to fly to Liverpool / Glasgow, other than that Aer Lingus for European destinations the majority of the time.

Another fantastic airline is Norwegian Airlines....
It takes an awfully attractive person to make the Ryanair uniform look good.

There was a Delta hostess a few years back who was honestly most beautiful looking girl ever. Couldn't stop staring at her. Spent a fortune on drinks and food just so she would have to talk to me.
