The information this site and others get from users is ip addresses, operating system, browser you are using, plugins you have installed, screen resolution and many other things which adds up to a very unique fingerprint that they know more about you than you know.
No two people on here have the same configuration. If they wanted they could block a person from even viewing the site, and from creating other accounts.

While true to a point, mobile has ruined it. Most network operators are bigger into NAT than traditional isp's so many, many more people are using the same ip. And the browser agent data off phones it's all too similar compared to desktops.
