The fact is it is not the law that gets us to take tests, it is the will to live and be healthy and if that is not enough, no friggin law is going to make us. Good grief men! Also an STI is going to come from a client giving it to an Escort and since the majority of clients don't get tested, the odds will not get any better or worse for that matter since the majority of us insist on using protection.

I don't think it is that easy to get paper documentation of the results either by the way. I've never been given any and the best I have managed to get is a text to give me the all clear from the clinic. I'm not sure where you guys get your info from.
Oh and 30000 people were prosecuted for driving while using their phones in 2014

    Hi Jessyca
That was my original point, make it legal.
    Kate took issue with this.

What ever we should do to improve things for everyone, sweeping it under the carpet as Frances Fitzgerald wants to do is definitely not the answer

Valid point about punters needing to take care of thier sexual health. Where can you go to get tested without giving personal details.

It depends on where you are. I believe there are places you can go to in both the North and the South that are free and discrete. I recall someone telling me there is a walk in centre in Londonderry guys can use (not Sex workers). Perhaps EI could add a sticky on here of the places that clients can go to for this, as I think it is very important.

There are many many doctors offering sexual screening in Dublin. They don't care what name you give. Although why anyone would care about not giving your name is beyond me as they can't tell anyone and aids tests are all anonymous

Seems like you know the procedure. Could you enlighten a little more for someone who didn't want to go through their normal Doctor?

I went to the clinic here in Belfast recently and it's so backward compared to what it would be in England or even Dublin for that matter. They want your full details and you have to wait up to 2 weeks for an appointment unless you feel it is an emergency. After taking your full details they then ask you the type of questions that you don't really want to have applied to your real name and address.

I have no idea why they don't have a proper drop in centre. There is a facility for sex workers on a once a week basis, but they don't always have everything they need to take the tests unless you call up ahead to let them know you are coming.

Not sure why it's so badly looked after over here. In Birmingham they have daily anonymous screening tests on a walk in basis and the same in Dublin. I believe Cork also has this facility for sex workers.

I would imagine it is more in line with the questioning that you get. As a woman I am always asked if I have ever been paid for sex before they give the tests. Do they ask if men have ever been paid for sex or paid for sex when giving tests?

At my local clinic I was asked if I had hetro/homo sex, if I ever paid for it, if I was ever paid for it, or if I had sex with someone who has ever been paid for sex - I'm assuming the last question was a get out of jail free card for seeing a sex worker but not wanting to admit it.

If you are paranoid about keeping anonymous (like me), an option is the web site letsgetchecked.com.

You can buy a test kit over the counter at lots of pharmacies, collect and submit samples yourself (blood and urine), and get results on-line. They seem very professional and thorough.
