Speaking of civilized countries, this may be more pertinent to the discussion at hand. Namely rape and idiotic decisions/opinions xx
I do what I want. I cannot do otherwise.

We can go in circles.. . My only point is that I think it is wrong to make blanket statements, to condemn a whole country for

some mentally deranged people's acts. Or based on the opinion of an idiot on the Bench.

We are a big country (population 309 million !!). We're bound to have some idiots and some maniacs. And they make great coverage.

Even one, even one single life lost to violence is one too many. You won't get any argument from me on that.

But to make a comment "level of stupidity in US" is just not right.

In 2009 in Listowel in Kerry, nightclub doorman Danny Foley was sentenced to seven years (with two years suspended) for the sexual assault * (not rape) of a woman found naked from the waist down, bruised semi-conscious and behind a rubbish skip with Foley standing over her. Evidence was introduced from CCTV footage in the car park that showed him carrying her behind the skip not long earlier.

Up to 50 locals queued to shake hands with him when he was led back into the courtroom, including the parish priest, who had earlier been a character witness for the accused and has called the case a "miscarriage of justice".

    * Sexual assault, originates in the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act 1935 when it was known as "indecent assault" and it is still generally understood to mean an assault in circumstances that can range from non-consensual sexual touching to a sexual attack just falling short of rape.

Babe, I am American, and I don't think this, that idiot of a judge is simply sprouting misogynistic bullshit, that has no real relation to anything more that his personal opinion, and his obvious lack of anatomist lessons in school. Or his personal experience with his misses, who wasn't up for it with him.

And so is Ireland! A country whey a woman recently died because it is a 'catholic country', and doctors wouldn't give her an abortion because there was a feral heartbeat! Yes, we as Americans do have some rather stupid people in our country, but if you want to go tit for tat, Ireland won't come out of this with out a few chunks missing.

I was making a point in relation to the gun laws, but while we are on the subject of abortions, it seems that Ireland have the same abortion laws as most of Africa and much of Asia:

I would never think that every American would believe such nonsense. From what I have read, the rich tapestry makes up the States consists of of very different people in certain areas. Hence come election time, you have States that will be pro Republican till the end of time, and those who are Democrat. The swing states decide the election.

I was wondering whether bible belt some Christian's believed this...and if this is true, why? Because I just find it hard to believe that it is a lack of anatomical knowledge that could bring someone to this standpoint..because no-one could be that stupid, surely?

You do not know for a fact that a woman died because of a catholic ethos, no-one does please keep your unsubstantiated claims to yourself.

As for the stupidity of Americans, yes there are stupidity of Americans I am saddened by that comment One judge's opinion and antiquated opinion shouldn't be used to tarnish all of America's judicial system, for the most part I'm actually proud of our judicial system, where people who commit crimes get sentenced to LONG terms in prison which is not something I can say for Ireland's gawd awful system, isn't that Ireland's own stupidity. For all the flaws America has we do an awful lot right.

Oh my god. And there was me thinking that it was down to a strict religious doctrine....

I do maintain though, that if Senate candidates and judges are making these comments, then they must think they have an audience for them. Politicians may be stupid, but they do enough research to know what are vote winning comments in their own constituencies...

But I do find it amazing that there are areas in the States which are so conservative, yet areas which are so Liberal.

It does seem like two different countries in one
