    Default Is Woke Dead

... dying, evolving, regrouping? It seems to me that the great fears of "cancelation" are beginning to recede. I have a friend who was been the CEO of a really succesful private equity management company who spent the last few years having everything he uttered in public filtered through guardians to protect him from any mis-utterances. But lately I'm getting the feeling that the woke 'brand' has become very devalued outside of niche, mainly online, groups.

A vocal band of activists launched a campaign against the Hogwarts Legacy game because of its connection to J.K. Rowling. When the game came out it was instantly a phenomenal success – the most popular game ever on the streaming platform Twitch, physical sales of 12 million in its first two weeks of release, earning its makers $850 million (£709 million) in revenue.

The defeat of the referendums a few weeks in Ireland suggest people aren't willing to vote for nicey nicey words any more, and Sinn Féin is discovering that it can lose a significant part of its new voter base for not being hard enough on immigration.

Is woke dead? Or terminally ill? Or evolving for the needs of the 2020's?

I think woke ate itself somewhat.

There was widespread eye rolling in the early days at some of the stuff being highlighted or 'cancelled' but also a groundswell of support around the bigger issues like the MeToo movement and anti-racism stuff. As it continued it seemed to get stranger and stranger the stuff that was being targeted to the point that it was nearly a parody of itself and in general people are sick of so called trigger warnings and micro aggressions and the rest of the guff. I feel the movement became emboldened by early successes and then over-reached to the point that it lost the plot completely and now there's way less support and far more eye rolling.

Considering that's yall took over a word and changed the twisted its meaning to better suit victimisationand white supremacy, white woke is dead. Black woke isn't. Namaste.

Personally, I'd appreciate your insight into what the word means and how it has been twisted to mean something else. Or how you see the difference between white woke and black woke and what the future is now for the authentic thing.

Yup, they plural went and ruined it for everyone.

Sarah, definitely she/her/lover of penises, but would kinda like to have one sometimes so I could rub it up the back of men's thighs...best feeling in the world 👌🏼

It would be far better for the world if woke went permanently to sleep

Before COVID, people were generally comfortable in their lives so they tolerated a lot of shit they shouldn't have cos they just wanted a quiet life. Then COVID came along and, all of a sudden, a quiet life became impossible. You had to do and say everything you were told to do and say, or your life would be turned upside-down. COVID shook a lot of people out of their apathy, the silent majority are starting to speak up now and "woke" is not (and never was) welcome.

Also doesn't help that inflation, energy costs, rents, grocery costs, are all spiraling out of control; people stop giving a toss about pronouns and cultural appropriation when they can barely afford to live.

At it's most basic level was "woke" not just about not being a cunt to others? Which surely isn't a bad thing.

That is sensible. The escalation possibilities here are many.
