The prime minister said the national hospital bed occupancy rate is now at more than 44% percent and that four regions, including Paris, have more than half of their intensive care unit beds filled by COVID-19 patients, including the Paris region.

Typical they just read the headline and nothing else. France's ICU capacity is 40% occupied with just covid patients, clearly there are other patients in icu as well.

Lockdown doesn't work on its own. But when things are out of hand, they can get you back under control to a place where you can manage it through the other measures.

Trouble is people ignore or flaunt the rules and that makes it harder for everyone else and drags the whole bloody thing out longer.

Would be nice to be in South Korea, or New Zealand, if either place would let me in...

ICU is not for people on a waiting list ffs

Its intensive care unit, you don't make an appointment, you just pray it is not where you or your loved ones end up in ICU.

Surgeries cannot go ahead unless there is spare capacity in ICU. Currently many surgeries are postponed because ICU capacity is reserved for covid.

The Irish government should have been recruiting and training since earlier in the year

Instead we get lockdowns, people going on holiday, house parties, over whelmed contact tracers, cock up after cock up

The year to train a critical care nurse is on the time to train a qualified nurse. Just pulling a few nurses from other duties for training, means closing several wards.
