Massages
The report of the OJC into this area had a specific recommendation regarding massage providers, so the 'I was only getting a massage' excuse won't cut it, if the recommendations are implemented in full in any new law.

Realistically, we need to look at the countries where this law has been in place, ie Sweden (15 years) and Norway (5 years).

Norway reports that between 80 and 90% of indoor sex work is still there. Sweden reports that they still have 1000+ sex workers. The Swedish police have caught 3000 clients in 15 years -- that's less than four a week in a country of 9 million people.

It's deeply unimpressive. Does anyone really think Ireland will do any better?

This law is intended to be a deterrent. That is all it has been and all it will be.

No i am not mad what i meant was if a guy was stopped comeing out of my app all he has to say is he was haveing a massage as i have a cert to prove it as i said innocent until proven guilty and that will never happen unless your caught in the act or seen exchangeing money either way i am not bothered as i am independent i work on my own x

I suspect most busts will come from tip offs.... This is how it is at the moment. Most escort busts or "brothel" busts are due to "concerned" citizens contacting the Gardaí with a complaint of irregular activity. If reported, the Gardaí are obliged to investigate. This is called a "raid". If the Gardaí want to make a killing, usually they would watch the premises and wait to raid when they felt their raid would maximise court conviction... i.e. wait till a pimp/madam was on the premises, or the maximum nmr. of escorts were on the premises.... because the only conviction they could get were those two instances... Pimping (a person gaining return from the proceeds of an escort) or a brothel (an escort gaining return from the proceeds of another escort)... this was the only way to get a result in a court of law.

Now!! they may have an added bonus... the PUNTER as well... Gardaí will always seek to maximise a court conviction. The well established escort, with a squeaky clean work ethic is a bollix of a potential summons for a Guard, cos it may fail in court. Its embarrassing to have a case thrown out, so why risk it when you have a selection of probably already known escorts/sites to chose from .... .

Imagine the scenario... Sergeant says to vice squad on the morning of law being passed... "Lads, I want a conviction today... what ye got?".... Will vice start stalking the aparttment of an establish discreet escort.. pffffff...

My point being.. I expect convictions to come from the type of escort that attracts undue attention anyway... the fly-by-night non-established dependent escort in a well used & known premises.... not the kosher more established discreet type.

Then, that's just MY expectation.... not a rule... Butttt...as one poster has correctly stated: the law ain't passed yet... drive on like mad until then... the girls need to work and save like fuck.... cos I predict, there WILL be a paranoia fuelled slow period ahead for all girls...
