Now John, if I tell you do you promise to behave, you cannot or should not give a reference to someone you have not personally met, that said, if you go to the persons board profile you will see a tab saying References, click on it and there is an option to give that person a reference, you go to your own profile to see who gave you a reference but you are the only one that can see who did, to everybody else it will just say Hidden as the person who gave you one.
