I wouldn't say you were an idiot, but it could me more an issue of perception. You may worry that you may not live up to the expectations, and you too may also be disappointed when you meet the lady. This way, the image you have in your head will hold fast and true. And let's be honest here, Irish men are some truly shy creatures. Can you face freely chatting to some who has seen you naked with your socks on, nads swinging in the breeze, and hairy bits? Perish the thought.
