    Default Examiner editorial

A rather simplistic viewpoint that accepts its own failings. The moral majority will be delighted.

As with most things the truth is neither black or white and simplistic measures do nothing except make the problem worse. Criminalising men who pay for sex you drive the industry further underground, you give the trafficker greater opportunity to continue his hold on the victims as you not add a layer of criminality to the victims that will prevent them trying to come forward and you prevent possible witnesses coming forward for fear of prosecution.

Criminalising is not the answer. Educating the average punter would be, but that can't happen unless the industry is regulated and monitored. There will always be a dark side to thus industry, fuelled by sickos that need a greater (or cheaper) kick then a legal independent can offer. But sadly, I don't see legalising happening in ireland as long as the hypocritical uninformed 'moral' majority set the agenda.

I am concerned about how much press trafficking is getting at the moment - as it will only hasten the end of this industry as we know it. As the usual press hysteria takes hold of another topic to crusade about.
Retired from punting, yet still here?

Unless we punters start to co-operate somehow and boycott trafficked girls, then we can only blame ourselves if the authorities move in.
However that also goes for this site owner, he needs to clean up his act too and refute or at least distance himself from these allegations - http://www.sundayworld.com/columnist...rish-crime.php (scroll 1/2way down the page)

the editorial starts with acknoledging the abject failure the war on drugs is
and has been. I predict Ireland will choose the high harm model for itself once again...
