does everyone fall asleep when they pull up at a red traffic light?
seems to be very common and is terribly annoying when first car does not move off until the light is about to turn red again

Just blow your horn, loudly and repeatedly, and annoy even more people.

Shalom/salaam.
10,000 years of Middle Eastern civilisation and the place is not at peace but rather in pieces.
I agree, I find Ireland the worst for this. Either they're texting, ogling women, doing their makeup, daydreaming, or picking their nose.
Sometimes I'm a few cars back and I wait for the drivers in front to give a wake up honk...but nothing. If this was Italy, France or Spain, they average time to give a honk to a dopey driver is 0.0005 seconds after the light goes green!

My experience in Portugal was horns blowing from 8 30am until 5.30pm.
It was hell and the traffic didn't move any quicker.
Ireland has it faults but its a long way from the worst traffic wise.
