Let me tell you what is even more shocking, this kind of thing has gone on since the 70s...

Used be a club called "Le Kilt" in Soho...all the absconders from care knew about it and made a beeline for it...no point in me even trying because I easily passed for over 18 - they were only interested if you looked your age.

A guy like these thought he wasn't making enough money from my best teen friend, Aline, and used a broken bottle to make sure she could never have children before she was really a teenager.

BUT...Social Services, and the Police, have known about this a stuff as long as I have without doing a damn thing...

I am sure the prison population of ordinary criminals will know how to take proper care of the offenders.

    BUT...

I guarantee one question will still be brushed under the carpet just the way it was in the 70s:

WHY will there be so much evidence that some of these young people (not really old enough for more than a first romance) actually PREFERED being pimped like this to the care system?

When I was their age I used sleep with guys just because if I had, it didn't matter if they worked out how young I was, because they would not dare call the cops...

...I thought all that changed too until the teenage kids of someone close to me landed in the UK care system, and I found out how wrong I was.

I would say that now the scum that exploit them have been caught we need to move to the second phase and start working out why the care system is failing them so bady...

...but I know, in my heart, nobody will even bother to do that part, so why kid myself?

...and until they do sort that out, there will ALWAYS be a new crowd of scum waiting to exploit the kids that the system fails and abuses, because those kids genuinely *HAVE* nowhere else...

(No harm naming Aline...she was going to "a new life" on another continent...no none ever heard from her again. )

Your point on care for these very vulnerable children is so true .
And those clients are every bit like the scumbags who traffic these helpless kids .: doc
Never mistake kindness for weakness .: doc

Those kids were targetted and trafficked *BECAUSE* their age made them, not just more vulnerable, but more profitable. There were no "innocent clients" here...anyone who paid for them knew exactly what was happening, and I hope they hammer them all to hell.

Obviously it is an HUGE personal trigger for me...but beyond that...the UK Social Services were where I really learned the truth, that there is no kind hearted sheriff with a blanket and a mug of cocoa at the end, like in the movies, however badly you need them, however innocent you are...

...and at least half the people claiming to "help" you are people you need to run from.

Those kids needed rescue, love, safety...what they will get is held in glorified borstals, and "secure psychiatric units" until they are 18...

What kind of hell did the state leave them in that they may not realise they were victims of very serious offences here?

...and what kind of place is it where kids wind up sleeping rough ANYWAY???

...and why is that, if not relatively ok, then, apparently, "no big deal" to the British Media?

The worst kind of trafficking in my opinion, there are no innocents, other than the children, in this situation. Hopefully information will become available from this police intervention which will allow both clients and traffickers to have to answer for their actions.

The issue of the care system for children is an interesting one. In this country it's still completely inadequate with no one really looking after the young people or accepting responsibility for what happens. You only have to look at the number of deaths of young people in care to see that there is something very wrong still happening. It was amazing to learn that the State still farms out troubled kids to detention in private centres, run for profit by head count.

I don't think the Police would move unless they were sure they had all the information they need. I cannot say enough about Police, here and in the UK, when it comes to dealing with things like this.

But don't hold your breath waiting for someone to hold social services to account...they really are just "Ruhama for Kids"...same attitude and neither reason, nor "better nature" to appeal to.

"Farmed out" being the operative term...foster carers in the UK are paid between £300-£450 a week for each child they foster - forgive me if that suggests to me that the wrong people may be applying for the wrong reasons far too often.

The UK care system is a cold blooded, implacable ambition machine that just eats kids' lives before they can begin, the Irish system is more inept and corrupt...

Both are absolutely useless at best.

If they are lucky, these poor kids have just been pulled out of the fire into the frying pan...if not...

Issues relating to juveniles in the criminal justice and care system is set to be a growth area in the coming years which naturally specialisation is a must (read create-your-own-job as a professional do-gooder) once you pick up your Masters and pretend to care about children (something I could never pull off!).

Don't get me started on that...I bet, at this stage, you are wondering how you managed to get through the day without "The Incredible Lang and her Troupe of Performing Elephants-in-the-Room" to spread a little gloom, doom and raw reality...

Actually from the moment I heard that you could make money setting up a private hostel holding torubled kids that you don't even have to look after, it got me thinking and seeing €,€€€,€€€
