Some random thoughts on this.
It seems some girls don't grow out of the secondary schoolyard behaviour. While the lads here either have obvious hostility or bromance, with the girls it's a hell of a lot more subtle. Add that to the fact that English is not most of their first languages and there's oxygen and hydrogen just waiting for a spark, and a few lads wandering around with matches (or are they catalysts? I dunno, I would liked to have continued the chemistry analogy, but it's been 33 years since I last opened a chemistry book). You can see it building. It starts with a potential passive aggressive post, followed by a probable passive aggressive reply, followed by a definite passive aggressive reply to the reply and so on until it reaches active aggression.
I shared this with Dieve as well, so no problem sharing it here. Her initial post on the "place your bets" thread could have been interpreted as trying to influence the result or seeking to continue the previous month's shitshow. I don't think it was, but I can see how it can be read that way. There was a response to that that said "what about XXX, did you forget?". The "did you forget" part can be construed as passive aggressive - i.e. "there's no way you forgot, you just excluded this person". Dieve interpreted it as such and responded with "you can make your own tally if you think I'm wrong in my calculations". Which was interpreted as active aggressive, and so on until the thread veered into shitshowland.
All of it came out of a big fat nothing. Certainly nothing for her to be banned for, but I guess if mods are getting whinged at by enough people then it must be true, right?
To me, she didn't cross any lines. She didn't use medical information against anyone. She didn't splurge private info. Her behaviour is somewhat obsessively compulsive about often trivial things and an inability to know when to just step over a mess instead of pointing it out, analysing the mess, poking it, trying to make sense of why there is a mess, who did it, and when. That annoys people, and I guess if your whatsapp notifications are going off for this then you're going to roll your eyes and ask what is wrong with this chick. I get all that. But I also know she has a good heart - that she would go out of the way for a friend (that's partly what she got the ban for), that she's supersmart, and that she doesn't suffer from spontaneous informational incontinence when stressed. The ban isn't the worst thing to come from this - I think a bit of time out from here will do her the world of good. We've all needed it sometimes.
