I suggest you try to put yourself in the shoes of Millions of Ukrainians and perhaps if this works better for you consider the threat this war poses to all of Europe . Covid we will manage as to your concerns about your civil liberties, in context of what is now developing !!!
Yes I have ongoing resentment regarding the pandemic. I just think it seems some jump from our useless government. The war in the Ukraine is very sad. The UK will do what they choose...it's not for you or Ireland to tell them otherwise. They are a member of NATO and I guess they will help in other ways.

What the fuck does russia want with ukraine? Do Russians not have a large enough country of their own? It's 28 times bigger than Ukraine (which is no shrinking violet, ukraine bigger than France!).
Look at the poor Dutch, 18 million crammed into a tiny corner that could sink at anytime.. and they bother nobody.

    Default Russian Delault is Imminent

Russia’s Rating Cut by Fitch, Seeing ‘Imminent’ Bond Default by Maria Elena Vizcaino and Sydney Maki
Increased sanctions boost risk of non-payment, Fitch says
Fitch joins Moody’s in warning on Russia creditworthiness
    March 8, 2022

Russia was downgraded to the second lowest level by Fitch Ratings, which said a bond default is “imminent” as a result of measures ushered in since the war in Ukraine.

The company cut Russia’s rating by six notches to C, just one step above borrowers who have already been driven into default, it said in a statement Tuesday.

“The ‘C’ rating reflects Fitch’s view that a sovereign default is imminent,” it said. “The further ratcheting up of sanctions, and proposals that could limit trade in energy, increase the probability of a policy response by Russia that includes at least selective non-payment of its sovereign debt obligations.”

Russia’s credit score is sliding deeper into junk as concern over the repayment of government debt mount. Moody’s Investors Service cut its rating on Russia earlier this week, while S&P Ratings has the nation three levels above a default score.

“Current valuations are pricing in a high likelihood of a default,” said Todd Schubert, the head of fixed-income research at Bank of Singapore. “The Fitch downgrade reflects the consequences of Russia’s increasing economic, financial and political isolation.”

have further undermined the country’s willingness to service government debt, according to the statement. Russia is contending with the economic sanctions that have piled up and left the country increasingly isolated since the war began. The U.S. on Tuesday announced a ban on Russian oil imports.

Fitch cited a step that could force foreign-currency-denominated bonds to be repaid to some creditors in rubles, which have plunged in value since the invasion.

“Default on Russian sovereign eurobonds looks inevitable and is set to last some time, with bleak recovery prospects,” Stuart Culverhouse, the head of sovereign and fixed-income research at Tellimer, a research firm that specializes in emerging markets, wrote in a note published Monday before the downgrade. “And bond prices pretty much reflect this, with most USD bonds now trading in the 20-30 range.”

Worries over the impact of the war are rippling to other borrowers. High-grade dollar credit spreads globally widened Tuesday to levels not seen since the middle of 2020, according to a Bloomberg index.

Russia’s default may come as soon as April 15, which will mark the end of a 30-day grace period on coupon payments the Russian government owes on dollar bonds due in 2023 and 2043, Morgan Stanley’s Simon Waever said in a note Monday.

Fitch cuts Russia's rating further into junk, says debt default imminent by Taru Jain
    March 8, 2022

Fitch on Tuesday downgraded Russia's sovereign rating by six notches further into the junk territory to 'C' from 'B', saying a default is imminent as sanctions and trade restrictions have undermined its willingness to service debt.

The country's financial markets have been thrown into a turmoil by Western sanctions after it invaded Ukraine, raising significant concerns over its ability and willingness to service debt.

The rating firm pointed to Presidential decree, which could potentially force a redenomination of foreign-currency sovereign debt payments into local currency for creditors in specified countries.

"*Further ratcheting up of sanctions and proposals that could limit trade in energy increase probability of a policy response by Russia that includes at least selective non-payment of its sovereign debt obligations," the ratings agency said in a statement.

On March 16, Russia is due to pay $107 million in coupons across two bonds, though it has a 30-day grace period to make the payments. read more

The 'C' rating in Fitch's assessment is only one step above default, bringing it in line with the Moody's current equivalent score of 'Ca'.

The change comes less than a week after Fitch revoked Russia's investment-grade status, slashing its rating to "B" from "BBB". Peers Moody's and S&P had also lowered their sovereign ratings.

I don't fully agree with him. I think Putin is interested in a Greater Russia and Ukraine is central to that goal. But he was spot on about Russia's willingness to wreck Ukraine and the West's unwillingness to protect Ukraine.

I certainly hope the good guys win and there's no fallout!
