"As long as the middle East exists" you say Westie - What do you suggest ? Bulldoze it all into the sea? Surely that will make the sea level rise and half of us in Ireland will be under water ?

Truthfully though Afghanistan has been impossible to control by any occupying countries in the past . We can blame the British, the Russians and the US all we like for their blunders in the past but at the end of the day their destiny is in their own hands. There is no simple solution to the situation there unfortunately.
    Are we there yet ?

Agreed, people should exercise their own demons.
You should have used a comma after day and before unfortunately. Just trying to help you out!

Like many others , I too feel very bad for the Afghan people especially women and young girls. This may be a very silly question but I will still ask the people here as I am really curious to know the truth - Why even after being trained and given modern weapons for 20 years by the mighty American army - the Afghan army proved out to be absolutely no match against Taliban ? Are the Taliban such a fierce force that nobody can do something substantial against them ? Also who funded and kept the Taliban war ready for the past 20 years ?

If you have sympathy for anyone its Biden as he was at the end game and whatever he did stay or go was lose lose as the big decisions had already been taken
The people I have big issue with is the
much vaunted US intelligence services how did they get the timescale of the collapse so utterly wrong,it must make you wonder on the accuracy of the information the go to war with
I’ve been doing some more reading on the subject - As news and remote reports come in .

Apparently even the Locals were absolutely blindsided by the speed at which the Taliban

    overran the country .

As they advanced already they have committed targeted killings and mass executions of

    Afghan Security Forces and Afghan Army members in the provinces ;

They have started ordering women off their jobs ( one female bank employee was ordered

to leave immediately , and a male relative can replace her in her job ) .

Already there have been forcible removals of young girls and young women torn from

their homes , away from their families and ‘married off’ to Talib fighters .

Even the people of Kabul were caught off guard , believing “Kabul can withstand for a year” .

Now Burka prices in Kabul have increased Tenfold as women scramble to buy the mandatory

cover that makes them ‘disappear’ , makes them unseen as a human being . They are scared .

: Even the Locals had no indication that the country would be so speedily overrun ...

What a horrible fiasco - and tragedy .
I do what I want. I cannot do otherwise.

Do you think at all before you post? Do any reading, any research, even a quick Google?

Might help prevent you from looking so foolish all the time.

I have only read and heard a small amount of events from women in Afghanistan over the last couple of days, heartbreaking would be an understatement, seeing the people their and especially women and young girls losing the freedoms they have had over the years now taken away. I cannot imagine what they truly are feeling and fearing at the moment.
