Yes I am for real .

I was not on summit ; I got to go to Camp One which is the first one above Base Camp .

Through incredible good luck and sheer coincidence I got to go up .

I’d rather recount my Everest adventures in person ( not necessarily to You ; in general ) ,

posting it here on the boards some may see it as bragging or playing it up .

But yeah , I was on the Mountain - before the hordes .

Incredible , breathtaking , Khumbu Icefall with crevasses and building-size

ice blocks that can ( and do ) topple without a moment’s notice , to the detriment

of any that may be in the way : some years back some 15-19 (?) sherpas died

while fixing rope in the Falls . My memory fuzzy on it , someone can look it up .

Awesome : crossing a crevasse on them tiny aluminum ladders tied end-to-end ,

below you the yawning abyss ready to swallow you should you falter and fall .

: I watched grown men on all fours trying to get across . You have to cross many

to get to Camp One . Incredible experience . / I had no Sherpa , only a friendly fellow

American who took a day+ out to accompany me : you don’t go alone .
I do what I want. I cannot do otherwise.

I'd definitely give it a go if I got some sort of training for maybe a week. 1% chance of dying is slim ,

falling down a crevess would be slim
When I was on the mountain / at base camp , had Puja ceremony with Babu Chiri .

Look him up . He was a guide Sherpa . He was leading an expedition .

They went up , I went down .

By the time I returned to Kathmandu , shortly after they were cremating him :

: he fell on the mountain . His ashes carried by a breeze ended in my hair .

It was different back then : was much more likely to die from a fall than from

freezing to death while waiting in line .

: If you stop moving even for just a few minutes once you’re in the ‘Death Zone’ ,

immediately your peripheral circulation starts shutting down in the body’s quest

    for survival : toes , fingers , nose , lips , cheeks , frostbite imminent .

What’s going on on the mountain nowadays is an aberration that I would vainly hope

    should somehow be remedied .

But Have some respect for true mountaineers : it is not the crevasse or the chance of falling ,

it’s the incredible inner will to put one foot in front of the other despite incredible odds

and in face of danger and through pain that is respectable .

The conveyor belt that is today’s Mt. E. commercial expedition , deserves nothing but derision .

Was there in 91 took a month to get to base camp.

Wasn’t in any hurry, had trouble acclimatising.

Amazing experience. Wouldn’t go near the place now.

Some operators have clients who only learn how to use their equipment at the foot of the mountain, said Lukas Furtenbach, an experienced expedition leader. “They’re learning how to put on crampons in base camp,” he said.

Don’t blame Nepal for being money grabbing, every country does the same with its tourist resources including Ireland.
I often wondered after first seeing that photo if it was genuine or photoshopped ? It's hard to believe that there would be so many ascending Mount Everest that they would have to form such a large and lengthy queue.
    Are we there yet ?
