In Ireland there is no legal obligation to aid another.No civil liability.Similarly there is no duty to provide medical care by emergency services.Unlike most other EU members.About two years ago i walked out of my home and watched a woman collapse across the street.I immediately ran over to her aid.Two other people stopped,one rang for medical assistance the other decided to video what was happening.As i positioned the woman into a recovery position a phone came over my shoulder which i grabbed and smashed off a nearby wall.Medical services and the polite arrived soon after and took over.The person whos phone id smashed reported my actions and i was arrested,and rightfully so.Standing in the station i apologized and offered to pay for the phone.This didn't seem to be enough for them and insisted that i be charged.In response i put up a counter argument.If compassion,sympathy and honestly are desirable traits and the essence of morality,then morally and legally under article 450 do you think videoing someone in need of help is right?Or should you be charged with failing to help and imprisoned for three months and or finded more than the value of your phone.They apologized took the money and dropped the charge.If only we had similar laws in this land then we wouldn't have to only rely on our own ethical and moral justifications to help each other.

I understand where you are coming from, you are not a pacifist on human nature. I am not sure who you are more angry with, those who do wrong or those who spectate , I know you hold the "isnt it terrible do nothing brigade" in utter contempt

Modern society has become in part Virtual Voguer with camera in hand more interested in being popular with their virtual friends than doing anything , the TV series Black Mirror did a v accurate episode on society , mobile phone footage and humanity

I think this is related to Texting me thread . I know all 3 of you from that thread and if you all were to have coffee you would find common ground

You have a good heart Mr Pan but you are no pacifist, that Heart of Gold is matched by Iron will to demand society responds to injustice and not just observe and Tut Tut .

I wish you had kept the smashed phone as one day an exhibition of your "Work" on behalf of others and your campaign to move us to demand better. That is an exhibition I would like to stage

Because you are way more than "do good" and that leads you to situations such as here , the message you have is non to comfortable for many as it casts them as accomplices in the crime the negligence , accordingly you get strong reactions , some who react are also good but defending different territory as in the text thread

If the world followed your lead....it would be a better place

I spent my early tears in UK and when I came here I could not believe how people just throw rubbish in the street instead of bins,
Living in Dublin you see a certain type of people that only seem to care about themselves and not society as a whole.

Problem is we live in times with professional scammers, compensation culture and attention seekers looking to level any malignant accusation they think they'll get away with.

Awhile back I got involved in helping a certain sector in our society, in doing it I knew I would get caught by the odd one who lied. I went ahead anyway as I felt better to help five and get caught by one than help none

But you are right everything is thrown to the Horde of opinions/bias out there these days Mr Wolf and there in no good deed goes unpunished , so one needs to know the possible price of doing good such is our world , magnified so dramatically via Social media
