Default Advice if stopped by guards

Would it not be EI’s interest to engage a solicitor or barrister or expert in the field ,to give us punters a guide of what to say or more importantly what not to say if we are approached by an Garda, similar to the guide for newbies .
I think it might ease people’s minds and let things get back to normal ,

Great idea, could make it available on request by PM if they wanted to keep it discreet & out of the public forums

There are Solicitors and barristers who specialize in certain fields . Eg. drunk driving , domestics etc
A little advice from someone like him with a contact number might be an idea.

I think one important bit of advice would be not to have anything important, that cannot be cancelled, to do after your appointment like return to work, catch a flight or pick up the kids. There is a limit to the length of time the Gardai can hold you without charging you with a offence and if they don't get enough evidence to charge you, they have to release you. Don't be afraid to ask them if you are actually under arrest, if they say no you can walk away.
To anyone that doesn't like me here.
I hope you need to pee 3 times tonight, but that you only wake up twice.

Be one of the twenty who kept quiet and walked away.

Not the one who talked and was prosecuted.

Free tea and sympathy and advice given freely.

Some Solicitors are human and very lovely to all the lovely decent legal eagles
Same as that , when my own solicitor forgot something , I had to ask the nearest one to me to do an affidavit under real pressure , no problem to him and wouldn’t accept payment, I have put work his way since , but just thought his attitude was great

No such thing as probable cause in Ireland Stephanie. They may stop you if they feel you are leaving the scene of a crime or on your way to one. That's about as open ended as you can get really.
Best advice is give your name, address and stop there. You are not required to give any further info. If they detain you for questioning say nothing until your legal counsel arrives.
