I heard prostate massage was good at reducing the risk of cancer. Something about the stimulation helping cells. Is it a myth or fact I wonder . I am a bit embarrassed to ask my doctor.

Can't hurt to try

I think this is a suitable question for the general chat, not just Ts/TV section.
There is certainly a link between the occurrence of certain cancers and the frequency of masterbation, but I don't know about specifics. But it can't hurt (and often feels great) :-)

There was a suggestion that increased ejaculation may reduce(but not eliminate) the risk of prostate cancer somewhat. This has not been proven conclusively ,but was suggested by an American study.
Other things like quitting smoking, moderating alcohol consumption, maintaining a healthy weight, having a healthy varied diet and not being sedentary will also play their part. You can't change your genetics but they will also surely be involved.

As retained testes(a developmental anomaly whereby testicles do not descend to the outside and are retained in the abdomen)-if not corrected by surgery-very often go cancerous,I would suggest that decades of tight clothing and sitting down with testicles kept above optimum temperature may not be the best either. It can certainly have an effect on sperm fertility and health anyway.
The optimum.temperature for testes to function properly is a little below core body temperature.
Retained testes are kept at body temperature.

Nowadays mostly done by a blood test which looks for the level of PSA(Prostate Specific Antigen) in the bloodstream.A high level of this antigen and the doctor may recommend a prostate biopsy.
A digital prostate exam may also be used and any symptoms such as difficulty passing urine, more frequent urination, more frequent night urination will be taken on board.
Starting to get checked at 50 is a good idea or earlier if there is a strong family history of prostate problems.
