Wink An excerpt from my review of Blade Runner 2049

For the one and only beautyaddict (an excerpt of the article- better late than never)

My film review of Blade Runner 2049

After being introduced into the universe of Blade Runner growing up as a child, I naturally wanted to see the sequel to it. I admit, I was slightly reluctant about it, not because Denis Villeneuve wasn’t a good director, but because I was reluctant that the sequel will raise at least, halfway, to the quality of the first movie.

The second I saw the short movies, introducing the audience to the universe of Blade Runner 2049, I was convinced. It will be good. How couldn’t it be?

If the list of actors starring in the movie isn’t enough to convince you( Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas, Jared Leto), then the short movies will most definitely will.

Anyway, without steering myself away from the subject, I will start by stating my opinion regarding the movie.

The plot is so simple, yet so complex.(for those who haven’t seen it-spoiler alert)

Officer K, discovers the remains of a replicant who managed to get pregnant and is sent to eliminate any evidence regarding it. Which also means destroying the child the replicant had as well.

On the other hand Niander Wallace who had bought out the former Tyrell Corporation is trying to replicate the performance of doctor Tyrell of creating a species of replicants able to reproduce. Hence the conflict of interests between him and officer K.(end of spoiler)

I won’t go into much details regarding the movie action because I don’t want to give out too many spoilers, but, I can say this.

I’m not a sci-fi passionate, it isn’t my cup of tea, comparing to the list of movies I usually watch, but this movie really got to me. I could watch it over and over again. It kept me for the entire duration at the edge of my seat. Despite the fact that there weren’t many scenes in which my favourite actor of all times appeared, I wasn’t disappointed. The movie had everything that I could wish for and so much more.

The action was very well depicted, the special effects to it, respected the universe created in the first movie and the new characters added a plus to the entire mix. It was well structured from beginning to end, and personally I didn’t even realise when time flew.

It left me wanting more, and also left me with a lot of unanswered questions. In fairness it was the best treat I could give myself for my birthday (hopefully there will be another sequel to it, because I would really want to see how far the creative side can go).

So for all who watched it I have a couple of questions : do you think that Deckard was actually a replicant? Do you believe that K was the other baby? Do you believe that in the end Wallace will be able to create his perfect replicants?

Well better late than whenever !!! You raise some great questions and well written Nina . The movie is epic but dividing people , I have decided those who do not like it am not likely to get on with , you either adore this movie or you simply do not get it critics I really respect are raving about it also but cert 15 a plus run time I think always made block buster unlikely in the traditional sense .
Will there be a 3rd installment? well it just passed 200 million dollars so its now in profit I think it is going to continue with steady box office take and perhaps get to 400 million .Would love to see 3rd one but not if they go and destroy these two epic movies .Seen it twice but a third viewing is not out of the question , the last 20 mins a bit weak would be my only critic and the prequels really added to it .I like that idea

We shall see. It is indeed a love or hate movie. I sure hope they make another movie because we have to know the answers to so many questions. I would’ve loved if they put a bit more emphasis on how Niander Wallace tried to make replicants procreate. He was an interesting character.
