As has been mentioned by other posters ( drbagehot and gonzo) it is stupid to be complacent, but I still think the simple, (relatively) cheap and low-tech (and low IQ) method is just to stake out some well-know and over-used location.

I regulary check my IP address that is displayed in your dashboard here and when I check the location of it, it has never given me a accurate location, gives my location as been in either Cork or Clonmel

Exactly I have been told by a sky technician that Eir needs to be contacted in order to get your exact IP address, anyway I dont think we xhould be saying too much about this on here.

As I said, you need access to internet prividers logs to get an accurate address and that is not obtained by using any software (which as you have discovered is often not very accurate). Your internet provider has your address on file because you gave it to them.

Hard to know for sure.
But I cannot think of any circumstance where they could have tracked him down using an IP address.

He accessed his account from the business where he worked which had a static i.p. address. The escort knew his username from contact with her. Easy to identify him from a staff line up.

Can your IP address be used to track you here by the Garda or will the have to try and get it from EI,I seen it on some newspaper some time ago that the Garda were going to use this,now I know you can hide your IP address or change it even to another Country, Anyone here know much about the IP addresses,

Short answer is Yes you IP can be tracked.

IP address can identify your service provider only. But if needed the service provider could then look at their logs and get close to identifying at least the person paying the bill.

A good VPN sorts that problem out. I have used Hotspot Shield.

Not true they also can tell what area you are in, the smaller the area the easier to track.
