I think the guards know very well how to squeeze.
I have been questioned many times and they can smell fear like a shark with a drop of blood in the ocean. Best solution is to tell them to fuck off. Am I under arrest ? No ? Yes ? I dont want to help you with any inquiries I am out for a walk trying to loose weight. Has there been a crime committed ? Keep asking them has there been a crime commited ? All the people in the article admitted guilt so its easy for the Gardai to bring that to the DPP and get them to bring it to court. If you deny everything the Gardai then have to seek approval from the dpp to bring you to court the DPP need to weigh up the evidence and the cost and then make a decision. The Gardai are not the law they are only one part of it, it needs to go to DPP they need to make a call on it then a Judge needs to make a judgement after that. Only a fool would admit guilt.
