How regulated is it though, most of the Western Union outlets are corner shops or Chinese phone fixings places. Probably being run by the very criminals laundering the money. Does it not look suspicious a young girl transferring of thousands of euro on a weekly basis all the time being escorted around by a bodyguard. How much more suspicious does it have to get!! Do you happen to know what agency regulates it, or is it self regulating?

Self regulating through a central call centre. I would imagine if you actually looked at the transactions in detail a good number of them are illegal, especially the ones where money is being sent to Africa. All of the scam artists love Western Union. It's not only there though, I've used a few of them over the years if I didn't want to travel with cash. Hate paying commission on my own money though, so easier to just open a bank account in each country.

Well we all know how well self regulation works!! Bring it under the central banks scope and then it will hinder the criminals but not stop. But every little helps. Revenue should start taking an interest in it.

Agreed, but probably never happen. For as long there is money to be made in it, there will always be criminals involved. The new law should make it more difficult for this element of the business, as people I think will stick with their trusted regulars and most of them will be Indy Girls.

I think you have the point. One problem though is with the numbers. There may be 800 adverts but there aren't 800 escorts behind them. Many will have two profiles. Some will be massage or domme, some will be fakes. Some will be profiles that are given to the latest girl to get her started. So, being generous, let's say there are 500 active escorts. That makes that approximately 100 exploited girls figure slightly more troubling then.

While I do agree with ya post made me giggle, since majority of clients not reading boards, or just being ignorant horny men, no unfortunately they won't stop visiting those dodgy profiles, it's only common sense for those who are regular posters her I'd say 15-20%....

Easy example got a call while I was in the shop and a text message straight after, which I answered less that 15mins, reply back "ohh sorry made an appointment with someone else" most clients won't plan their visit in advance, therefore they'll call dodgy profiles too!

Yes Stella, I see that most punters are not registered here. The guys who are members here are a very small minority and maybe not typical of the sort of man who visits escorts? Only you ladies can answer that.

This was a programme looking into the criminality associated with the sale of sex, so they weren't exactly going to mention the independent worker. Which...being honest, seems to be relatively rare. There are serious issues around the welfare of foreign women brought to the country (in England too ) issues that are very hard to even talk about without being labelled racist or worse. I will say this though, the clients know deep down that seeing a lady with no English cannot be considered informed consent.

The last time I suggested that this was not really safe for the lady I was called racist.

I don't entirely agree. I believe as long as the lady knows why she is in Ireland and what the work entails, she is still able to consent. I am more concerned that where there is a third person present and representing that person, they may offer services that the lady/gent is not willing to do and therefore give consent that does not exist.

It is a grey area at best.

I watched the programme, and some was extremely disturbing. But its a crazy situation where these guys operate in the open, moving girls around like animals by convoy of cars. If the Garda wanted to act, all they'd have to do is have high visibility and stop and question drivers etc. But maybe that's too simplistic. Interesting that the Swedish model requires loads of surveillance, and I don't see that resource being available here somehow.......
