If Scotland had went independent, it would have put the Sterling currency in turmoil, it way too strong now and doesn't help the country's economy but as always Ireland will stick by its closest neighbour.
Spend all your Euros before our new law is on the books whenever.
Euro slightly stronger this morning I heard

Ireland, Spain and Portugals problems are due to "bubbles" in their economy (ours was building) Greece`s problem is that their economy was always a basket case and to qualify for membership of the euro they cooked the books. The problem with the rest of the euro zone is simply the worldwide recession. UK and USA printed more money making their currencies weaker against the euro, thus reducing the price of their exports and raising the price of imports. The Ecb are now doing likewise, but it`s too little, and probably too late.
Ireland is borrowing money because we are not collecting enough tax to run the state. if we opt out and go back to the punt under that scenario, not only will the punt deflate massively against other currencies, our ability to borrow will be either zero, or at crippling rates.
At things stand, opting out isn`t even a viable alternative
