I have read the article, and it nicely summarises a point of view that I think is widely held by members here.
The problem with all of this is that the majority of society does not agree with or see the benefit in payment for consensual sex. However hypocritical, it offends people's notion of social norms, and for them, I imagine, escorting or prostitution is as disgusting or unacceptable as paedophilia. It does not matter how much we may disagree with that perspective, as politicians will normally reflect the majority view in our society. So Minister Fitzgerald is really only doing what would be rational for any other politician in her shoes. The challenge for us punters and escorts alike is to influence public opinion in any way that we can. Unfortunately a lot of the posts on this forum I feel have the opposite detrimental effect, the previous post about clients being potential rapists being a perfect example.
Of course, articles like the one the OP linked should also help...

No I absolutely do not think that is a reasonable perspective.
I can personally guarantee that I would never ever force myself on a woman if she did not consent to have sex with me. It makes no difference if she is an escort or a "civilian".
I hope all other clients on this forum would be able to offer a similar guarantee.
I note by use of the word "could" the previous poster is issuing an implied threat of an increase in criminal behaviour if "draconian legislation" is passed that none of us want. Unfortunately such threats will not help our cause, and be only counter productive, where the real losers will be the women who fall victim to these rapes

when we collect all the guarantees, we'll hand them up to Ms Fitzgerald?
