Sex work debate in Dublin - 25th September

I will be in the Graduates Memorial Building (TCD) at 7:30pm on Wednesday the 25th of September, debating the motion -
"This House Supports Legalised Prostitution".

As yet, I don't know who my opponents are, let's just say I know who I hope they are.

So, all support welcome, and hopefully see you there.

Torl are saying 19 children have been trafficked into the sex industry in 2012, but the stats have not been released yet. I'm trying to write a blog to counter argue their point, but I can't find any actual evidence of where they got their figure from. Anyone got any ideas? Or did they just pluck it out of the sky? 2011 the figure was 6.

As you prob know,Kate, trafficking figures are conflated with child pornography offences so its very difficult to confirm their figures and with their history of inaccuracies , its hard enough to counter moving goalposts. Perhaps blueblindfold@garda.ie might be able to help to see if they can corroborate ICI's claims.

Those were my starting points milkman. They have not yet released the figures for 2012, which is where my confusion is. Unless they are privy to information not yet collated. I don't know how they can make those claims and so brazenly.

Hahaha excuse me. I took more than a day off when I was writing my submission. It is the location that is too far away while I am on tour that is stopping me attending. I had a brain virus and I can't travel that distance without possibly dying on the road, so no I won't risk it, but thanks for pointing that out to me.

Please also remember that this would be attending as support, and not actively participating. My being there would be nice, but it is not essential and won't make a huge difference, where I can work in my own time and try to uncover some facts and I was on the radio the other day, which I never imagined I would do, so I make my efforts where I can.

I fell asleep at 10.30pm this evening, because the extra brain power I am using doing the research is debilitating for me. I nearly had a melt down when I was writing the submission for the same reason. I think I put enough of myself into this Rachel.

I would say the submission was a little more than a letter or threads online, wouldn't you? Did you write one? Of course, you must have done to get asked to attend the meeting, which I had also asked to attend and made sure that I was able to get to. That wasn't exactly my fault I was not able to go to it, but also I am English and not wanted. Right?

I think people who are not involved directly in sex trade do not understand how this works.

If one sees girls moving from Cork -Dublin -Belfast every week , they think something must be wrong.

The fella in the show driving the girls around , he was not questioned by the police , yet the escorts were in court.

Ladies who manage themselves will suffer from an apartment closed down as is nobody there to arrange another apartment as was shown on the video for those ladies.

I said before how important is for foreign ladies to get help in this country. Wish there was more transparency regarding it as independent escorts might find themselves in a not nice situation when others want to win over a part of the town/city.

I fear the Swedish model will bring more and more guys like in the video helping girls and less escorts will want to deal with the hassle , they will move on to another country.
