Yes indeed, I'm in the first few months on breaking-in my first smartphone, and I found a lot of the standard settings on it to be quite invasive. I had to manually turn OFF the data connections and 'location services', which basically tracks WHERE YOU ARE anywhere in the world, because being automatically turned-on was the default setting. Nearly every app you load of a certain kind tells you that it can't won't load properly UNLESS the location services are turned-on, so I just say forget it, I'll just check out the local weather by sticking my head out the window!
I've also NOT registered/set-up my e-mail or Facebook through the phone, because even with the 'location services' of the phone turned off, those sites would still be able to track and keep tabs on you, and I don't like that at all, never mind whether or not I'm out punting!
