Great war leaders seldom make good during peacetime.

Oh yeah, he was what Britain needed at the time, if it was making the decision to fight and not come to some form of agreement with Germany

It was more than just that, he embodied the determination of a nation, helped his people get through a very dark time, appointed the right people in the right places, made the right agreements with the right allies, luckilly he was too preoccupied with the war in europe that he never got a chance to enact his plan to invade and occupy ireland.

Oh you didn't hear this one, how surprising. Lol. Back in '39in his first month in office, one of his topics during the planning sessions was to quickly invade and occupy ireland to, a) give them better access to the atlantic for the convoys. b) close the "back door" and prevent the nazi's access (we had our own nazi type movement at the time called blue shirts). c) ireland was still in the commonwealth at the time, and to declare neutrality was incredibly insulting :-)

I know he was going to invade Norway and Denmark. That was the reason Hitler did it first.

    Same thing.....

Yeah. But a little thing called Dunkirk happened and there were never enough resources to carry it out. Plus the irish tended to be neutral on the allies side. Many a downed british airman or washed up sailor found themselves with a warm cup of tea and directions (if no lift was available) to the border, while the axis rescued remained in custody.
