I just read this:
http://www.irishexaminer.com/ireland...id-204919.html
I know they don't use accurate stats, but it says "Last year Ruhama assisted 200 women from 36 countries"
Anyone know what "assisted" means in this case?

Thanks Wexfordboyo. There was a snipet on the latest Ruhama report on RTE news yeaterday. It mentioned Ruhama's suggestions that mobile phones of sescorts be blocked and escort advertising sites be sensored/blocked by internet providers. The news segment played some clips from the previous primetime documentary (obviously focussing on the worst cases!).
I'll see if I can find the link.
For the record I believe (as do most here) that the coercion of women into prostitution/sex work is not acceptable and that measures do need to be taken to counter organised forced prostitution. There shoulds be organisations that are available to help women in these situations. Which I presume should be the role of Ruhama and similar organisations.
The problem of said organisations is that they refuse to accept that many (and most of us here believe that it is the majority of escorts) work out of their own free will, be it independantly or for agencies or third parties.
As a result they seem to have put theri energies into destoying the industry and not distiguishing between girls who work voluntarily and those who don't. It is a bit ironic that they claim that in their vast expreince nearly all sex workers are forced into the industry and want out. Clearly it's women who need help who get in contact with them, while the majority of other escorts have no need to. The reason for their bias is obvious but missed by the general public at large and the mdia. Although I suspect the media well know the truth but that wouldn't make a good story.
Anyway we plod on! For those who haven't sent in their submissions to the dept of justice, please do so before the 31st of August! Plenty of links / threads on this section of the forum to tell you how to do it!

Ruhama speaking in the Irish Examiner had very little facts and depended heavily on heresay. They'd be better off trying to find a solution instead of demonising consenting adults having sex. You can be doing a lot worse things out there than being a sex worker. Like for instance being a waste of space head of hindrence NGO's. The article doesn't seem to let negative stereotypes get in the way of the truth either.
Deeply worrying listening to this bunch of lunatics and fanatics.
Two people sharing an intimate moment or two and doing no harm to anyone.
This is to be made illegal?
I'll go mad if they succeed. It will make me very unhappy indeed.

But haven't they just rebranded themselves so well Bob!!
20-30 years from now there will be people seeking some redress from some public committee due to the harm caused to them by the said zealot groups. But as usual the public is blind to their schemes during the time that counts!

This will exasperate the issue instead of helping, remember probation in the US. The result, thousands of underground liquor joints, controlled the mafia. If they succeed then Ruhama will really see forced sex workers....................., and will be totally powerless. Why can't they accept some girls enjoy and do this work freely? It really is down to brain washing, and as has been said some of the biggest abusers where in the church, either sexual or forced labour. And remember the eminent Dr in the Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, run by nuns, and the butchery that took place there, was allowed by the same calibre of people now calling to demonise sex workers.

At the end of the day what is the problem with escorting at the end of the day you pay for my time what ever happens in that time is between to consenting adults which is not against the law. If they want to get picky well every one get some thing through sex if you look at it logically you want a new kicthen you go and give hubby a good night in the bed room or you pull a girl in a night club buy her drinks all night and wham bang thank you mama. Look at half these politians bet the hire escorts!! If they really want to stop traffiknig as they keep saying invest the money into a special unit and stamp out traficking and help these girls. But leave us indies alone.
