So, is there anyone else who has not had the misfortune of polluting their mind with such idle refuse? Is there anyone who has polluted their mind with such idle refuse and benefited from their escapism within it? Does anyone else have any other unassorted views?
Within fiction, there is always an element of truth. For example, Tolkien was in the Great War and elements of his experiences had been incorporated into the text (e.g. The Dead Marshes represented the dead soldiers in the muddy trenches, The Shire represented the Dutch fields, Mordor the battleground, the Orcs were apparently a 'demonised' version of German soldiers, etc).

Perhaps it was a coping mechanism or just cathartic? I suppose it also depends on what you want from a book, really. However, it isn't just the fantasy element that is exceptional, it is also the geographical aspect of the 'world' as it is very believable and not to mention Tolkien had completely invented the 'Elvish' language, which is actually taught in certain educational institutes.
