Default Opinions from girls on being "chatted up"

    During the daytime that is.

Let's say for example, you're going about your daily business in the city centre, and some guy stops you and says ; "Excuse me, hi, just saw you from across the street, and I knew I'd be kicking myself if I didn't stop you and tell you I think you look really nice/gorgeous/beautiful/interesting".

Would you be impressed by his self-confidence, or would be "weirded out" as it's very orthodox, because society says so, you're not supposed to chat up women on the street, that's what nightclubs or for, yeah? =P

Using the approach you mention, I'd be immediately suspicious that he wanted me to sign up for a direct debit to a charity or something.
However, I did have a young french man stop me in Dublin one day, kiss my hand and tell me "Madame, you are a beautiful lady. Have a beautiful day."
It made my day...THAT's how to do it!

He had the advantage of knowing that unlike in France, pepper spray can't be bought over the counter

No need for pepper spray when you have a right hook like mine

No reply, just looking for opinions on what would be good to open with, haven't done it as of yet.

And Heather, what sales man say that? Surely the tag and clipboard would give it away. Of course he's not just going to stand there afterwards, if she was receptive, you'd put your hand out, ask her her name, and then tell her your name. the whole point is to let her know your intentions from the very start.

I stopped you because I think your're attractive. true intentions laid out in the first line.

Good luck with it. To answer your question directly, I think that approach is a bit creepy

I know that was in jest, but just has I expected, people would think it's weird because it doesn't conform with society, fuck y'all

"You laugh at me because I'm different, but at laugh at you because you're all the same".
