    Default Cancer in Men!

I always find it annoying and maybe it's selfish of me but I think it's really unfair the amount of advertising and awareness that is geared towards women, namely breast cancer when considerably more men contract prostate cancer and you rarely hear campaigns to get men to go get themselves free screening etc.
You drive around towns and sometimes you will see AA signs saying Breast Screening today, never prostate screening. Why is that?
Did you know that men have less than a 1 in 2 chance of getting cancer over the course of their lives, scary isn't it, women fair better but not much with just over 1 in 3.
I'm not saying there is no advertising, just it seems to be considerably 1 sided

The simple answer is that there are more female based cancer support groups, the most active of which is the Marie Keating foundation. In fairness they did a blue month campaign last year to try and encourage men to become more cancer aware, but there is still a perceivable difference in advertising and awareness levels. The other issue is the male ignorance gene....it prevents men from acting on medical conditions early on....ah sure it won't happen to me, or that pain will go away itself are typical male attitudes that don't really do a lot to promote longevity.

I don't know the reasoning behind only women being allowed to race in the 'race for life' as men can get breast cancer aswell, I realise its not quite as big of a thing in men, but if any knows the reasoning behind it...I'd love to know

Problem was a lot of male competitors misread the title and thought it was race for wife.....there was an avalanche of withdrawls from the race

As I understand it, the US-based Pink Ribbon/Susan G. Komen Foundation charity were the ones who have PR'd the issue to its prominence over the last couple of decades. There was recently a flap over them and Planned Parenthood, the result of a recent overt right-wing Christian tilt in their policies:

“We want to apologize to the American public for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women’s lives,” Ms. Brinker said in a statement.

Look at the upside lads instead of paying 100 euro to an escort for a prostate massage the doctor will do it for 50 euro

I think the invasive nature of Prostate Cancer checking encourages more men to try and 'ride out the storm', working off the basis the symptoms will go away
