    Default Banks open Good Friday?

Probably a stupid question but does anyone know if the banks are open on Good Friday?

Just a bit confusing as Good Friday is a public holiday and not a bank holiday.

Is banks not closed on public holidays in Ireland making them inadvertantly a 'bank' holiday? :P

Actually you are all wrong, except Ray kinda because it is a church Holiday but Good Friday is the only day of the year where a Bank Holiday and a Public Holiday are not on the same day, it is only a Bank Holiday which means you are not actually entitled to a day off unless you work in a Bank.
The reason everybody else gets a day off on a Bank Holiday usually is because it's actually a Public Holiday too.
Another misconception is that if a Bank Holiday / Public Holiday such a Christmas falls on a Saturday or Sunday you are entitled to the following Monday off, you are not, what you are entitled to is 1 paid day off within 30 days of the Holiday but most companies just close the next Monday for convenience.

Anon, you are also right kinda, if people get today off, it is because it is actualy taken from the holidays that the accrue monthly also, in a lot of cases it is not a day of closer,
