    Interesting article:

Reminds me of a series I watched recently:

Found this interesting article read here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisf...ies-scandal-un

    quote from it:

Ireland locked up more of its citizens per capita than anywhere else in the world – not in prisons, but in psychiatric hospitals, Magdalene laundries and industrial schools. Anyone who did not fit within the cruelly narrow definition of good behaviour was in danger.

Lest we forget...these ladies were people, just like us, built for all the same hopes, dreams, bitching, drunken 3ams and purchase of too many shoes...

Every one of them held prisoner by these monstrous orders was EXACTLY like one of us being held in the exact same way.

What those orders did was no better than Dachau and beyond forgiveness...and now they want to reincarnate the same principles for a new century.

    One word:

    NO!

i know high park very well

long story short i worked there for one week in its now nursing home

the director of nursing is a nun still

the dinning rooms are seperated one for nuns and one for the women remaining form the laundry

the nuns one be alot nicer btw

while escorting a patient (an inmate for want of a better word) who had difficulty moving we met two of the eledry sisters in the corridor
the sisters expected that one to stand aside and bow her head as they passed, the lady did it and i asked why? she said for her shame if she didnt the sisters would be mad

another day in the day room, one of the patients suffering dementia was shouting a sister (one of the residents) walked over and hit her calling her a stupid woman and she should be praying for her soul

no one batted an eyelid this sister was 90 but of sound mind, she had no excuse bar been a well a cunt

i handed in my notice that day, the laundries may be closed but the abuse goes on,

I remember hearing all of the above before...wasn't there eventually some kind of scandal about it? Not in the context of the Laundries, but in the context of equality legislation? If I remember rightly they had to integrate the dining areas and the nuns did NOT like that.

They were horrible people, and the attitude of Ruhama still remains the same.

I was often in their office in Stillorgan a few times because their (then) office manager was a personal friend...the actual Ruhama staff tried to talk to you as if you were a child, it was too degrading and humiliating to deal with them.

chick put it this way, i was having a laugh with a patient about someone on tv, messing saying u have him on ur arm
the patients where in stictes laughing and enjoying themselves

i got pulled up for it for inapprioate conversation, there was no mention of sex etc, just mentioned a good looking man and one of the patient was saying she loved george clooney,

i didnt even collect my wages, there a disgrace

there was about 23 patients who where nuns and 21 of them where sactamious bitches and the director of nursing sister brush up her hole, lets not go there the pharse in my day was common with her and the words after usual vile i reported them to hiqa also

    regarding this incident

i was told once to leave a patient whom soiled herself and i was heading to change and o yeah she suffered bed sores so really important she was clean and fresh and even taking that out, she is in our care and deserves treatment
but i was told wait and go instead to get tea for one of the sisters

needless to say i didnt go get the tea and attended my patient in need first

geniue i think if i didnt quit i wud have been fired, nothing wrong wit professional skill and care of patients but because i dnt stand for bullshit like

me resigning was an intreasting conversation to say the least, i like to leave it all out o and that i bloody did to sister brush up her hole

btw im catholic i never had or will have issue praying with a patient if it brings them comfort, but saying that i have prayed with prostestant and jewish patients, while i do not believe in the catholic church as such, reilgon does bring comfort

nd if i can provide comfort i will, the idealism of reilgon ive no issue with

just organisation like the catholic church in this country are scum and nothing but!
