Angry Punter? I hate that word!

Is it just the Nature Boy or does anyone else hate this word?

For me a Punter is a person that puts a bet on a horse and has a gambling problem. A guy/girl that sees an escort is a customer/client not a f**king punter!

Cant we please get this word out off the site and out of our vocabulary, I personally think its disrespectful. An escort is not a f**king horse/greyhound.

Yes, sometimes it sounds kind of degradeting, words can send differnt messages, it's like saying "whore", or "slapper", or "escort", they all kind of mean same thing which is a woman in the trade of providing happiness through sexual experience, but when we say "whore" or "slapper" we are degradeting that woman, however if we use the word "escort" we are talking business. So for us should be the same, I don't feel a punter as such, I am a customer, a client, in the same sense I am a client when I visit my lawyer, or my bank manager, or a car delaer, or an a escort-therapist etc...

    Default The world has tilted!

I never thought I would see the day, but I have to say I agree with Flypan, I personally prefer Gentleman, Client, or Guest. But Punter I find quite offensive. Just my two cents.

I think it is only in recent years that the "punter" word has gone out of fashion somewhat. Remember also the biggest UK escort websites tend to use it, e.g. punternet, punterlink etc. We will bear in mind that some people don't like it now though.

    Question Lucky Punt!!!

I would like to say that I am a client or customer etc when visiting an escort but the fact of the matter is we are all usually "punters" ................ a punter is an indidvidual who gambles ............. isn't that what WE are doing when visiting escorts in Ireland as regard the service we get / prices we pay etc????

  8. Default Punter

The word punter may refer to:

    * Someone who uses a Punt (boat).
    * A position in American or Canadian football.
    * The Punters, a traditional Newfoundland music group.
    * The Punter (protocol), a file-transfer protocol.
    * Ricky Ponting, the Australian cricketer.
    * A term for a computer program that launches a denial of service attack through an instant messaging application, particularly in the context of America Online in the 1990s.

The most common use of punter is probably the slang or colloquial use in both British and Australian English meaning a paying guest or customer. More specialized usages include: in Britain (primarily in London and Essex), a punter may be the patron of a brothel; in Britain and Australia, a punter may be a gambler, particularly an amateur betting on horse racing or a player in the game of Baccarat, or a beginner skier or snowboarder, especially one with particularly bad style. In all these senses there may be an implication that the punter is going to pay more than he needs to.

In Hindi, punter also means a dude, as in "Punter hai re ekdum", meaning "He is a cool dude".

In spite of the Hindi reference, I too dislike the word.

    Default More punters...

Anyone watching "Celebrity The Apprentice" last night, In the show the celeb.s had to open a shop and fill it with products to sell for charity..When they had the shop stocked they then made reference to our famous word by saying....

"All we need now is to get some punters"

Showing again that it is a commonly used word referring to "paying customers"..

sorry for bringing it up again but it just caught my attention on the telly..
