    Exclamation gaurdians of the piece

An Garda Siochana-gaurdians of the peace. i presume this
dates back to the birth of the state etc.

what peace, we regularily see young men shot dead with firearms because
of the blackmarket in substances deemed illicit. Chicago tried that in the
20's with alcohol and it did not work, similar shoot outs. 'gang related', 'drug related'
are the terms used to explain, oh, thats ok then.

they didn't want headshops and rushed in draconian, undebated law based
on little more than societal hysteria. i'll bet the street dealers applauded that decision
after they had ordered some new luxury vehicles. it's time to think outside of the box.
    prohibition is serving the suppliers.

I argued unsuccessfully, regulate it, tax it and control it. Large chemical companies set up manufacturing you can control what is in it and gain revenue for the state, instead banning it has as you say driven it onto the street dealers and made it a multiple times more unsafe than it was when in a headship.

i read about gardai busting in on a factory growing cannabis.
this one was bigger than normal, several 1,000s sq ft.
i know i'm bias as i am familiar with and trust the substance.

but in this day and age, closing factories seems wrong to me,
mr big was not there, translators are needed for those that were.
maybe were getting near to the end of it, finally!

I don't use it myself, but have no great issue. The problem is the current government will use a strict law and order agenda to score little victories. Easy targets, sex industry and cannabis production and use, appeals to their core vote and makes them look like they are being active, also distracts from their total economic acquiescence. I fear for the future.

alcohol is back 20% across the boards. the headshops admitted
sales of 1 million euros a day across the provinces. i would estimate the
illicit drug market to be aound 1 billion PA. half of that is benign (tweed).
if we were progressive enough to decriminalise that, i could see a flourishing
tourist market UK/Europe/US. we were first with a smoking ban. good at bans: abortion,
smoking inside, all drugs/phychoactive. i read some of the constitution today-my, things have changed!

'moralising' appears overly important to this state.
