Default Foreigners in Ireland......send them back ?

According to the stats there are 585,000 foreign nationals on Irish soil.

That represents a greater proportion of the population 13.81% than the the likes of The Germans,French, British, Spain or US have to deal with.

With nearly half a million unemployed, does this make sense.

However The Irish diaspora consisting of Irish emigrants and their descendants in countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, Argentina, New Zealand, Mexico, South Africa, Brazil and states of the Caribbean and continental Europe maximally interpreted, contains more than 80 million people !!!!!!!

And according 2001 UK - 869,093 people born in Ireland (North and South) are living in Great Britain !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and according to the link below there are approx 1m Irish (South only) born living abroad at the mo'
    http://www.globalirish.ie/issues/how...ean-factsheet/
......so should we just keep shtum ?

I have this issue where I live as an expat. Local population whinging and moaning cos the economy has gone tits up. Who do they blame? Johnny Foreigner... (me!)
However if we all fkd off home and all of their own kind returned thereŽd be even more people knocking about struggling to find work. Try explaining to the locals though. Head - brick fucking wall....

This immigrant card is overplayed altogether and is seen as an easy target for blame, the truth is the world is a small place today and u will have alot of immigration that will have nothing to do with economic necessity but with lifestyle choice etc
or even people looking for a different pace of life different climate etc. We had what for all intents and purposes was full
employment in Ireland about 6 yrs ago(4% unemployment roughly) but we still had 25,000 people a year immigrating, they
didnt have to leave but chose to. I know now people have to leave but dont blame immigrants they are not the cause of
our problems and if every one of them left it wouldnt do anything to solve it
    Blatant promotion should be outlawed
    but

Alec- nice to see you back stirring up shite- consistency in a world gone mad

Interesting topic & one I can relate to as an americanized mick!!
Know your OP wasn't meant as xenophobic but some interesting choices of language..but to talk specifics-
Pretty sure that France actually has a higher proportion of foreign born residents than any other EU nation..but their citizenship laws are like Canada/US- once you're a citizen they simply 'count' you as a native. Germanys citizenship laws were til recently almost the reverse- there were second generation Turks born there who weren't eligible for Deutschland nationality... point being is it's hard to compare apples to apples across nations etc. I'm curious about how up to date the 585k fig is for scary Eire- anecdotally we've seen a sig flux in the EE population in IRL.. so if this data was collected more than 6 months ago it's prob out of date in an inflated sense.

Ireland needed people during the boom & even with the bust, if all the non-nationals left in the morning the economy would implode (further)...I for one was delighted to see an influx of fresh blood into the country- let's face it the average Lithuanian bird makes our colleens look like President Higgins in a wig The more the merrier!!

    Btw- to your point about the (50-70m?) diaspora, a huge chunk people could theoretically qualify for an Irish passport;
would you like to see all those ('non-foreigners') come 'home'?

We live in a transnational world- let's make the best of the current situation without stirring up anything negative towards our new Irish residents- after all IRL exported it's own in millions like cattle for the past two centuries!

ps _ I choose to leave IRL of my own volition but am lucky to be back on a rather frequent basis- I'm shocked but not surprised at some attitudes towards non-nationals in past few years. Thank Christ I've never experienced that BS over here.

You know there was a very funny looking wee man with a silly mustache and a really bad temper who lived in Germany why back in the 1930’s (he was also a bit of a wanker) who blamed his counties economic and social problems on other races and religions which was total bullshit.

Its always the easiest and handiest way to blame others rather than to look inward and closer to home.

By the way, by the time he was finished he caused a right bit of a racket.

I don't have anything against anybody on the grounds of race, creed etc. I do however have a problem with our immigrant situation versus Irish emigrants. Paddy mostly always went abroad to find work, unfortunately, this is not the same with our immigrants and more specifically our refugees. They come for the welfare system, have more babies means more money. They have no intention of contributing to our country. Come to work, not to sponge. I think that Mayor in Naas spoke a lot of truth but was not politically correct so was slated and had to resign.

I agree with you Harry, it's the system and it's there to be abused. Most are economic migrants under the guise of refugees. The government would have been better addressing some of these issues, instead of cutting disabled benefits.
