Question how far would you go?

we all do(even daily) compromises:take the bus/train to go to work 'cause it's cheaper than going with your personal car, buying less clothes and going out once a month, just to save money for a one week holiday, pretend you like your boss even though he's an idiot.but none of these affect our lives deeply.many times compromises can control our lives and they make us say/do something totally different from what we would really want to and we forget about our principles...
so...my question is:How far would you go and what compromises would you be willing to accept to obtain something?
it's better a victory by compromise or a dignified defeat?

It depends on what the something is. For me, it's easier to say what I would never compromise: My happiness, my morals and my sense of self worth.

My happiness will keep me alive, my self worth will contribute to this, and my morals will make it so that I don't regret, and will still have family around me when I die.

Everything else I tend to file under the 'stuff' category, and nothing is irreplaceable.

Seems like you want to know what lengths someone will go to in compromising their wants/desires. I suppose it's all got to be done on a cost/benefit sort of measure, and it will certainly depend on what will be compromised on. Giving in to where you and your mates will go for a few drinks or where to eat for dinner are easy enough things to compromise on, as they are widely inconsequential. But 'selling out' on what's still important to people is something else entirely. Your morals and standards should NOT be compromised, at least whenever it might become absolutely necessary.

    Good thread Sara / Monique.
There is no real answer, we all prostitute our principles every day.
It can be as basic as saying hi to an asshole neighbour or as emotive as not assaulting a lad you know is trouble dating your daughter.
I tend to be a pain in the ass, haven't outgrown my idealism & regularly have people telling me that I make trouble for myself.
To thine own self be true & all that .....................

unfortunately it's true...we all do compromises and i hate to say it that maybe sometimes i went over my principles.all i wanted from this thread was to see if there are persons that admit the fact that:yes,we all do compromises, smaller or bigger, but we do.i don't think that there are so many persons in the world that have never done compromises and have always decided their life based on moral ethic.

Hi Monique --- great to see you post !

I am funny on this. When it is just about me then I find it hard to compromise on things that are important to me but sometimes I have to ' bite my tongue ' and do things for the benefit of others who depend on me even though my stomach turns to have to do so ! I dont have the luxury of just thinking about myself much of the time.
