You can only compete with yourself if the other site has it's own management and can write and implement it's own business and marketing plans. Otherwise it's still a monopoly. Eventually, if done well, it should give you greater Market share split between the two sites.

That's the way Standard Oil worked back in the days of Rockefeller. They controlled most of the market directly, but they also had secret subsidiaries who charged higher prices to people who were so annoyed at Standard Oil that willing to pay more to "competing" companies.
