I agree with El Gordo (hard not to, as he's always right!). Never admit to paying a lady/escort. That way it's only sex between consenting adults. I intend to be completely incredulous when the Garda tells me that the lady I'm with is an escort!!

And if it ever gets to the courts, I will echo the words of this great man....

"Don't be reckless with other people’s hearts. Don't put up with people who are reckless with yours"

This is a serious issue boys and girls. There wont be any craic or banter heard from anyone in an apartment that is raided.! Thank you to the posters that have sought to give concrete tips on what to say and do . There must be professional advice available as to what exactly to do and say if you are caught up in a raid. What info, if any , should be given to the authorities and what attitude to take. In a stressful situation like that, you need to know clearly the ABC's of the situation. Does anyone know has this been treated in a post or article anywhere.? ( I will try and do a bit of research on the net to see if I can come up with anything that may be of practical use -- this should not be a guessing game.)

Simples really. The lady should say ''Good evening Guard, may I see your warrant and take your supervisors direct number, plus your ID card please?''

If she is shown the ID etc plus the warrrant, then she should allow the Guards in and allow them to conduct their enquiry without obstruction. If there are two ladies on premises then your client has just become a star witness.

If the Guards do no have a warrant then you tell them quite nicely to come back when the do because you aren't only off the boat. And then go and peel your client out off the balcony he will be trying to jump off, usually naked
    well done Lucy! x

police know that most people quiver at the sight of that uniform
and useless titter sounding from their radio.

when dealing with police, you can spill and talk like a naughty child or you
can remain silent-frustrating for the officers-but who gives a shit?

I think there are a number of steps that Gardai must take before actually raiding. First is a warrant, however most people escorts included will not have the level headedness to insist no entry without a warrant, and gardai will say they believe a crime has been committed. The question to the garda then is What crime?

Secondly you are two consenting adults. I agree with not admitting having paid for anything. If the girl is truly independent you are safe, if there is more than one girl working and the premises is legally entitled a brothel, you can try the shocked just met in the pub story, however ignorance is no defence in the eyes of the law. While not being charged you will be the witness albeit a hostile one.

In a strange way a non native speaking escort may be an advantage because if you understand or have some words of the girls native language you can tell her not to say anything or say something like my girlfriend in her own language. I have a few sentences of a lot of languages.

Thinking about it now, I would grab the girl get under the covers and be in the middle of mad lovemaking as the door opened, would put the gardai on the back foot a little and would add credibility to the girlfriend story.

I suspect the legal pressure is more likely to come from a member of the Gardai watching the premises and stopping the client on exit, a little bit of moral pressure about telling wife/girlfriend/boss. In that case I would suggest a complete arrogance towards the officer, you what, I did what and you are going to do what, by all means go ahead and be prepared for my solicitor to slap a legal writ on you as fast as you can start the mondeo you have been sitting in for the past hour.

These are just my thoughts and not, I repeat based upon any great knowledge of the law, but on many years experience of being questioned by gardai for no real reason!!!!!

A raid is usually the end of an investigation. To have recieved a warrant the Guards/Police must prove they have cause to believe there is illegal activity on said premises, this is usually covered by their prior surveillance. There is only one thing you should realy say as a client- no comment. A solicitor will always tell you the same thing- never talk to any Guard without legal consultation. The police rely on your fear and shock to give them what they need- but your right to silence is enshrined in law. Same goes for the lady.

Here is a short educational clip as to why

A visit wouldnt be the same as a raid though. The purpose of a raid is to collate evidence for a prosecution. I have been visited by them is several countries, usually to check I am working alone and make me aware of safety issues, and they have made it clear they are there for that purpose.
