Well the French are getting in on the act now so at least the control will be spread a little thinner. Im surprised the Chinese havent got in on this. Soon all the oil will be controlled by a small number of powerful nations and what happens next ? WWIII.

Remember where u read it first when you're opening your pack of out of date iodine tablets.

And there's no point in Ireland trying to get a piece of the action. We couldn't even properly invade Rockall !

Not quite, you wont see them invading Saudi until things get really scarce in a few decades and you dont see them in Nigeria either but they are for sure doing all this for oil, there is not much point being top dog and spending trillions on becoming that and not making sure you stay top dog long term, and that will still require oil for a while yet. They are thinking decades and century or more ahead.

Best thing that could happen that part of the world is they run out of the stuff, only the few get rich there and the masses have been under the kosh because it suited the wests oil needs.

Totally agree, you can get by without oil (we did so for thousands of years) but you can't without water.

I was referring to the rise in population across the globe and the reliance on sources of underground or river water been shared among nations which might be depleted or over used leading to water shortages which in turn could lead to conflict between nations maybe the use of the word war was too loaded a word to use...apologies

Its not a loaded word, water could start a world war given the right circumstances and we are heading to those circumstances with exactly what you say, WW1 started over one man being shot, WW2 could not have happened if the right man was shot in WW1. Already been a few places that almost went to war over water, Iraq when Turkey messed around with the Tigris and Eurphrates rivers, same with river Jordan between Isreal and Jordan, does not really matter what starts a war, its how others get dragged into it or willingly get involved that makes it a bigger thing.

Waters a commodity like anything else, go back 100 to 150 years and people would have laughed at the notion of fighting over that black stuff that was only good to grease axles and light lamps, when something gets rare or useful people will fight over it and fresh water is one and becoming the other and getting rare in some places already.
