Well, according to this article - http://www.independent.ie/national-n...al-111389.html - you are ok to give a fake name ;-)

Interesting to know!! I was evicted from a hotel by the Garda, and while they may have gotten my details from the hotel reception, a. they weren't my real details, and b. they never asked me if they were correct, or to show i.d.

What circumstances caused the garda to evict you? Surely hotel staff don't just go around throwing women out of their hotels who they suspect are escorts? Get it wrong and they could end up in all sorts of trouble, litigation being one of them.

I had a dogy client who tried to rob me once, I had all the hotel staff running round the hotel after him, got them to change my room and they gave me wine and fruit to sooth my nerves.

They never sussed I was an escort and clients carried on visiting me for a further day.

No idea! I have no idea why they didn't just ask me to leave themselves. And it was at nearly midnight too- and it's not like I gave the impression I was going to cause trouble, literally the first I know of it was the uniformed garda knocking on my door!
It was only my second trip over so I didn't make a fuss as I wasn't sure how the land lies- have had legal advice since, and everyone is at a loss as to how the hotel convinced the gard to come out, there was no criminal activity in progress/ suspected!

Interesting thread. And I suppose maybe I am presuming I'd be cool in such a situation - maybe I'd panic too. Who knows?

The bit that gets me is the Garda response. Generally you'd need to have a bullet in your belly to get the Gards moving that quickly! No offence - I know there are some hard-working Gardai, but I am stretched to see how even those could consider this sort of thing a priority. And I am bewildered as to the actual crime being committed if a girl is working alone in a hotel room.

    Am I missing something? (Again!)

Are these "Gardai" in uniform? Is their ID looked at very carefully? All this "Gardai activity" sounds to me like sophisticated ways of frightening touring ladies away.

I just do not belive hotels would behave like this, or the gardai would get involved.

The Gardai that came to me were in uniform, I saw i.d. and also they had standard airwave radio's which they were using, and drove off in a marked Gardai car.
I have since seen one of them 'patrolling' (If thats what they call standing around outside the anpost office) on O'Connell street!

I understand what you're going through Timerzone.. A similar thing happened to me recently.
I was in the hotel room with an escort and a uniform Garda came knocking on the door. He was not there when I arrived yet a few moments later his bike was parked outside the lobby door, any closer and it would have been in the lobby .I had to squeeze past it on the way out. He obviously attended in a hurry.I did notice that a member of staff hanging around the corridor paid me some attention as I went towards the room but he never confronted me.
The garda later told me that it was the hotel management that called him and that he had to respond. Like you, in the spur of the moment I gave my real details, nearly shat myself, in the end nothing came of it..

Can the fairy stories please stop now? This is getting ridiculous.
