A fact or two about snow driving......
1. The tyres we get in this country are useless in temperatures below 0 degrees. They go hard and loose their flexibility. Snow tyres designed for the northern European market are rated to - 17 degrees and actually grip the snow and ice. It is quite remarkable just how good they are in these conditions but they are crap in temperatures above 15 degrees.
2. ABS brakes actually hinder braking efficiency in snow. This fact can be born out by the fact that in some markets where cars have a 'winter driving' setting in the ECU, the ABS brake function is disabled along with some of the anti skid functions.
I thought you should know ....
Were just not prepared for the snow, including the tyres on my car.
It may be sweedish, but I still hate driving it in the snow, hence I always stay in hotels to avoid the icy conditions.
During the winter I drive a Saab, the summer a Mazda.
Both are rubbish in the snow!
